Lake Aid volunteer hosts ‘covid-friendly’ spring break

Suzanne regularly welcomes asylum-seeking families into her home in Menthon and organises activities during school holidays, with the help of many volunteers. This Easter break, with Covid restrictions in place, she had to adapt, catering for small groups of maximum 6 young people, within a 10km radius.

Goal :
To welcome young adults and unaccompanied minors into volunteer families and keep them busy during lockdown school holidays from 14th to 24th April.

Result:
14 activities enjoyed by 18 young people (12 – 20 yo) & 18 volunteers and their families.

“LAKE ANNECY TRIATHLON TOUR” – STAGE 1 = Annecy-Talloires on foot with Suzanne + BBQ lunch at Claude’s and Easter Egg hunt at Hajni’s
The next two stages will be scheduled at a later date:

Doussard-Annecy on bikes

4 beautiful NATURE WALKS, each followed by a meal or snack at volunteer’s home to meet their families:
– Lachat du Parmelan and afternoon tea with Suzanne, Lydoch and her 5yo daughter Charlie
– Mont Veyrier with Suzanne, Sandra, Lucy and Victoria
– Angon waterfall with Rachel, David and their 4yo son Max followed by lunch at their home
– Parc des Glaisins and brunch at Cristina’s

GO APE ADVENTURE in Montmin + visit to the west shore of the lake
via the basilica (Visitation) and various castles (Annecy, d’Héré, Duingt), the beaches (Saint Jorioz, Doussard) and the nature reserve “bout-du-lac”, with Guillemette.

TRAIL TRAINING x3 in preparation for the Montée de La Tournette with Cyrille.
Carolina, Charlotte and Clement will alternate with Cyrille for the next training runs running up to the event on the first Sunday of September.

VENEZUELAN COOKING WORKSHOP run by asylum-seekers for volunteers.

ARTISTIC DIY ACTIVITY by a family of asylum seekers volunteering for another family of asylum seekers with a disabled child.

ONE WEEK ‘FAMILY HOLIDAY’ at Suzanne’s for 2 young people, who joined several of the above activities and more: a walk to the nature reserve « bout-du-lac » with Rachel and David, gardening, afternoon tea at Guillemette’s, film nights etc… and above all no cooking to do for these youngsters (16-17 yo), who already manage their own shopping and meals!
