Thanks to financial assistance from Lake Aid, another successful Colo Solidaire is on the books! During the Toussaint Holiday 21 through 28 October, nine children living in difficult situations from diverse countries including the Congo, Ukraine and Albania were able to take advantage of continued homework assistance as well as numerous social and physical activities.
For the most part, the weather was lovely and the children enjoyed outdoor activities including a day at the beach, a walk to the chateau at Menthon to play with the donkeys and admire the peacocks, as well as a hike to the grotto at St. Germain church. The children also had a trip to the swimming pool and ice rink, while the oldest boy was even able to ride a bicycle around Lake Annecy.
Indoor activities included art projects, board games, reading, singing and practising English. And every night after the board games were put away for the day, the children waited impatiently for the best part of the day: Storytime!
I am indebted to all who helped me make this year’s Colo Solidaire an unforgettable experience for the children:
- Lake Aid, who donated 50 € per child to finance our activities as well as food and transport for the children coming from Valence and Péage de Roussillon
- Britta, Roni, Nancy and Karen, the volunteers who accompanied us on our various outings
- Hughes of RESF (Réseau Education Sans Frontières) for his help with math homework
- Mike at BaseCamp in Talloires for loaning us a bike that provided an unforgettable experience for our oldest camp member
- Felicity who graciously loaned us art materials and swimming accessories from Lake Aid’s supplies along with clothing donations, which were greatly appreciated!
